Feminist Disney: Miley Cyrus interview article
“Miley Cyrus has received a lot of flak over the past few years for doing exactly what she’s supposed to — grow up.
Cyrus was introduced to the world as a plucky 12-year-old on Disney’s “Hannah Montana” and came of age both on television and in the public eye —…
Wow. I’ve never paid much attention to Cyrus (I actually thought her more sexualised image was a marketing thing), but I have a whole lot more respect for her now.
honestly I think she’s a stronger person than I am, I can’t even imagine what it’s like to try and be yourself- and grow up- when basically the entire world and most of your fans are telling you not to. She did everything she did in spite of the fact that she could have coasted on her adolescent image/approval for a lot longer than she did, and to give that up took a lot of guts…
THIS is awesome. Doesn’t change the fact that Miley does problematic things (hi culture appropriation), but this is really awesome. It speaks volumes of the fuckery that is Hollywood/Disney conglomerate exploitation of CHILDREN.
A few days ago in Brazil, a tweet hashtag, #ditaduragay, was raised to the Twitter trending topics. “Ditatura gay” means “gay dictatorship” and is a common term in Brazil for “omg, I’m so oppressed because they won’t let me be horribly homophobic”.
Nevertheless, in spite of the fact that hashtag…
I love the tag is being redefined
and I love that “conservative Christians” is specified
W O W“Not to mention that John, a strong, well-developed character, has been turned into a petite Asian woman who allows herself to be pushed around. Even the initial introduction is all wrong.”
How is OP even deducing from a four-minute preview that Joan is not a “well-develop—you know what. Never. Mind.
EW. I haven’t read through all that when I first found it cos i wanted to look through the tags for goodies, but…
ew, pls remove your racist and misogynistic ass out of existence. :|
Fuck this racist shit. The backlash against this character is so illustrative of how fucked up society is. If a white man reacted to seeing a corpse the way Joan does in the trailers, the exact same behavior would be lauded or at least considered neutrally sympathetic. But when a woman of color does it suddenly it’s weak and ridiculous? And now Joan’s stoicism and reserve is interpreted as “allow[ing] herself to be pushed around”?
This is just… so much bullshit. There’s nothing she can do right as a character, is there? Behaviors that would be admirable in a white man are just considered evidence of her inferiority. Fucking hell.
around 30 notes in and already deleted? that was a short-lived problematic post.
when a woman gives an opinion on something
and a man immediately devalues it because she is a woman and it must be her “time of month”
“The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.”
-Hebrews 7:18-19.
this pisses me off so much
what does it say about kids that the worst thing you can think of doing to someone’s Facebook when you get accidental access to it is making a “coming out” post
like being gay is something no one wants to be associated with
Okay, so I agree with everything Riley and so-treu wrote here and here, but I think some clarification is needed.
This might actually be an issue that we Asians need to seriously talk about; it goes further than just understanding how Asians can be antiblack — it has…

straightnormal marriage.Dear Sentry - The - Defiant
I saw this post, and decided to go on your blog for more of your opinions on gay marriage. However, your blog didn’t contain a lot of opinions on gay people. What it did contain was this picture:
And this one:
And this one:
So my question to you would be, if you’re ok with these women getting it on camera so you can jerk off to it and think about how macho you are, why aren’t you ok with them getting married?
Sincerely, Yourenotsylviaplath
OWNED - fuck hypocrisy
Okay: In the role playing game known as The Real World, “Straight White Male” is the lowest difficulty setting there is.
This means that the default behaviors for almost all the non-player characters in the game are easier on you than they would be otherwise. The default barriers for completions of quests are lower. Your leveling-up thresholds come more quickly. You automatically gain entry to some parts of the map that others have to work for. The game is easier to play, automatically, and when you need help, by default it’s easier to get.
Now, once you’ve selected the “Straight White Male” difficulty setting, you still have to create a character, and how many points you get to start — and how they are apportioned — will make a difference. Initially the computer will tell you how many points you get and how they are divided up. If you start with 25 points, and your dump stat is wealth, well, then you may be kind of screwed. If you start with 250 points and your dump stat is charisma, well, then you’re probably fine. Be aware the computer makes it difficult to start with more than 30 points; people on higher difficulty settings generally start with even fewer than that.
As the game progresses, your goal is to gain points, apportion them wisely, and level up. If you start with fewer points and fewer of them in critical stat categories, or choose poorly regarding the skills you decide to level up on, then the game will still be difficult for you. But because you’re playing on the “Straight White Male” setting, gaining points and leveling up will still by default be easier, all other things being equal, than for another player using a higher difficulty setting.
Likewise, it’s certainly possible someone playing at a higher difficulty setting is progressing more quickly than you are, because they had more points initially given to them by the computer and/or their highest stats are wealth, intelligence and constitution and/or simply because they play the game better than you do. It doesn’t change the fact you are still playing on the lowest difficulty setting.
You can lose playing on the lowest difficulty setting. The lowest difficulty setting is still the easiest setting to win on. The player who plays on the “Gay Minority Female” setting? Hardcore.
